Milestones
• Birth Centennial Year of Tan Chin Tuan.
• Celebrations kick off with 14 Feb Valentine’s Day treat for over 250 people representing over 140 TCTF-supported groups.
• Tan Chin Tuan Centennial Concert performed by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) on 3 May 2008, at ACS Barker Road for 600 elderly folk, caregivers and volunteers. It was the first-ever charity concert for so many elderly beneficiaries supported by TCTF on this scale. Involved five partners (TCTF, SSO, ACS, volunteers from schools, TCTF-supported charities serving the elderly in Singapore).
• Support cultural heritage as a platform to synergise with partners and beneficiaries and bring cheer to less fortunate.
• TCTF is awarded Partner of Heritage by National Heritage Board, for supporting Greek Masterpieces from the Louvre Exhibition in Singapore in a major way. eg: Supporting European Cultural Season 2008 and eg: TCTF started its Young Arts Reporter Project to train underprivileged teens in journalism and give them a chance to attend ECS events free and review them through YARP's blog.
• Building Stella Maris General Hospital (Nias, Indonesia) - ongoing.
• Nutrition and healthcare projects (Myanmar).
• Launch of Tan Chin Tuan Centennial Fund, 19 Aug.
• TCTF is official partner of Greek Masterpieces from the Louvre Exhibition in Singapore (secured tickets for 3,000 TCTF beneficiaries to visit for free). Exhibition from Dec 2007 - Mar 2007.
• TCTF responds to flood disaster 2006/2007 relief (donates over 400,000 ringgit to help affected Malaysians. eg partners Soka Gakkai (JB) to give affected poor school children dictionaries, schoolpacks, buy new uniforms; partners Malaysian Red Crescent Society on a "Saving Kampong Peta" project to help aboriginal community affected by flood in Johor.
• Continues assistance: recently (2008) set up "Tan Chin Tuan Community Library" for orang asli community of Kampong Peta (Johor, Malaysia) to improve reading/literacy skills.
• TCTF becomes first family-run philanthropic organisation here to appoint a full-time CEO Eric Teng from outside the family, as part of its revamp, with assistance from PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
• Annual Tan Chin Tuan Enrolled Nursing awards (by D S Lee Foundation in honour of TCT) launched.
• The council, having the foresight to plan ahead, and serious about doing good well, engages PriceWaterhouseCoopers to review operations and further professionalise TCTF.
Key Gifts
• $500,000 to ComChest to help single-parent families, through As-Salaam PPIS and HELP FSC.
• Over $300,000 to promote cultural heritage.
• $990,000 to YMCA for community services.

• Over $360,000 to Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) - support creative arts education (scholarships, merit awards, student assistantships).
• $200,000 to help publication costs of books that document Singapore's tsunami efforts (i) Aceh: A New Dawn (2) Heart of a Lion.
• $29 Million to NUS (to raise standards of unversity education and quality research, to promote exchanges and cooperation with the University of Malaysia). It was the single highest amount NUS received at the time.
• $500,000 to Courage Fund during SARS.
