Picture boards were used at each station to help the students to relate what they had seen in the garden to the adventures of Babar, told to them during their speech and drama lessons.

Charity Storytelling treat by Storytelling Association (Singapore) in association with TCTF
8 Mar 2008

Mrs S R Nathan, guest of honour at the Masak Masak event, takes a picture with TCTF beneficiaries. (Left to Right) Yap Su-Yin - TCTF Programme Director, Chew Kwee San - TCTF Council Member, Roger Jenkins - Past President of Storytelling Association (S'pore), other storytellers (backrow), First Lady Mrs SR Nathan (centre) with young guests from different charities.

8 March 2008 became a special day to remember for children from four TCTF-supported charities: Canossaville Children’s Home, Children’s Aid Society, Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) and As-Salaam PPIS FSC. That particular Saturday afternoon was special to the children, as they were exclusive guests to a free storytelling session by some of the most talented storytellers in Singapore. What made that day even better was that the first lady, Mrs S R Nathan, graced the occasion and joined the children in a fun time of storytelling.

The event, held at Republic Polytechnic’s Cultural Center Lab, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, for 102 children, including one on wheelchair, and their chaperones comprised a series of folk stories from different parts of the world – India, Laos, Cambodia and more.

There was plenty of synergy: TCTF paid for the transport for all the charities, and the refreshments, the storytellers took care of the programme, and RP sponsored the venue.
